Return to Birds of Africa

Africa birds were present in greater numbers and kinds than the crombec, cisticola, flycatchers and wagtails we present here. Due to the presence of predator mammals, we were not normally free to leave our vehicle to walk within lens distances. Wagtails and flycatchers were especially numerous and we found them throughout our travels in southern Africa. Cisticolas were a challenge to identify. The long-billed crombec was unique in its very short tail. The southern black flycatcher was particularly striking.
